The yarn is very scrumptious.  We liked it so much we bought every shade available.  It is very fine mohair from the first shearing of the angora goats;  the micron count is very fine.  The mohair dyes very subtly so the shading is pretty and soft.

Outlander Knitting is the star of the show!

Outlander Cowl

Outlander Cowl

Outlander – the TV series based on the book series by Diana Galbadon has some wonderful period costumes.  Whoever did the costume designs for Clare the heroine of the story clearly has some knowledge of knitting.  In every episode aired so far Clare and other women in the scenes are sporting hand spun, hand knit wool cowls, wraps and armlets.  They look quite authentic, all natural shades of wool and very bulky.

Get the Buzz and some images featured on the TV show. We have found the perfect yarn so you can make your own “Outlander” or “Sassenach” accessories. The mill is Borgo de’ Pazzi in Italy and they have several bulky weights of natural, untreated, un dyed roving yarns in natural shades.

Here is our selection: Borgo de’ Pazzi

There are many patterns available on Ravelry.  Simply do a search for Outlander or Sassenach and you will find plenty.  I think that the yarns from Borgo de Pazzi look very authentic for these projects. If you are a fairly experienced knitter you can probably do a gauge swatch and knit your own.  Basically if you want a cowl you would cast on as many stitches as you want and knit in a circle until it is the length that you wish. We have brought in some very big circular needles that are reasonably priced for use with this yarn.  We also have some straights if you want to knit side to side and join the ends. We have attached some “Clare” images from the TV show. Have some fun and enjoy!
